South LA Structure Fire Breaks Out in Marijuana Grow House
Wednesday night around 7:00 PM, a vehicle fire broke out at 240 E 57th St in South Los Angeles, quickly spreading to a nearby structure. LAFD reported that the warehouse that caught fire was being used as a marijuana grow-house. The city-block wide area quickly became filled with smoke, an orange glow and the pungent odor of burning marijuana.
LAFD firefighters were ordered out of the house due to the heavy smoke and flames, switching to a defensive approach to stop the fire from spreading to nearby structures. LAFD Ladder crews were able to attack the fire through the roof quickly gaining control of the situation.
Within 84 minutes, a total of 74 firefighters worked together to put out the blazing marijuana grow operation.
Arson is investigating but no cause has been reported yet. No injuries were reported.
